What does it look like to have a productive summer when your plans have been canceled?
One great way to take advantage of the extra time is by taking summer courses. Ask yourself:
a) Should I knock out intro courses now so I can take classes I’m more excited about later?
b) Will it be easier to take a certain class now without other classes (and campus life) distracting me?
Plus, if you're at UCB or UCLA, you can have Edlyft be your friend through your summer courses! 😃 Sign up here to learn more.
If summer classes aren't in the cards for any reason (it's expensive, messes with your course plan, etc.) another productive way you can use the time is working on personal projects. Below, you'll find our list of four projects/courses you can start to get a leg up this summer.
Our short list
Use this list to find ideas for things you can do to build your resume and develop new skills!
Web development
I can think of two founders in our most recent YCW20 batch that used tutorials like this to get their web apps going. The point here? You can use tutorials to build venture-backed products! Web apps are also incredibly flexible, and so can be used to create many different kinds of things. You also don’t have to do it alone— you can sign up to do this course with Edlyft this summer!
Mobile app development
A fun secret — our app Zimela, which made it as the App Store's App of the Day, and was also featured on the app store in February, started from on older version of this very Udemy course. 2020's version of this course uses the latest Swift updates.
An intro to CS
This is a great course for those who don't have programming experience and want a quick introduction to all things CS. If you're a student getting ready to take your first CS class, we especially recommend checking this one out this summer. The course is free!
Coding interview prep
The summer is the PERFECT time to prep for fall recruiting. Often there's less going on, and so you can muster up the focus (and find the time needed) to get in lots of interview question repetitions. Practice truly is the name of the game for coding interviews.
If you're thinking about prepping for interviews or exploring web development, you're in luck! Edlyft is offering support for web development and interview prep. Doing these with Edlyft will give you access to help from one of our mentors, and will importantly also keep you accountable to finishing! Sign up to learn more here.
